Axe 3 : Strategies for the use and durable management of plant resistance

Durable management strategies must rely on two complementary pillars: on one hand, the construction of resistant cultivars bred with durability in mind; on the other hand, de design of deployment strategies of these cultivars in time and space that take into account the types of resistances used, their combinations, the characteristics of pathogen populations, and the requirements of the end users (growers, traders, etc…).
This is why we think it important to complement our work on resistance characterisation and on the adaptation of pathogen populations with approaches dealing with the design of cultivar ideotypes and their use in integrated production schemes, conventional or organic.

Some of our recent or ongoing projects in that area :

  • Cultivar ideotypes of potato adapted to organic farming
  • Diversification strategies of potato cultivars for managing late blight in organic farming. EU Project Blight Mo

  • Resistance to L. maculans and oilseed rape production systems
