Eight specialized sections each representing a group of species, among which is potato. GNIS (the national interprofessional association for seeds and plants) is an official organisation placed under the aegis of the Ministry of Agriculture. It brings together professionals from every sector of the seed industry. The role of GNIS is to represent the various professional categories involved in the breeding, seed-growing, production, marketing and use of seeds and plants, and to examine and propose measures aimed at co-ordinating production and marketing of seeds and plants. GNIS also puts forward proposals concerning regulations of the sector. Finally, government authorities have assigned GNIS the responsibility for ensuring the correct application of such regulations and overseeing the industry as a whole. SOC (the Official Control and Certification Service) is the technical division of GNIS. Its role is to ensure compliance with regulations on seed and plant production issued by the Ministry of Agriculture. It is authorised to label all packages of seeds, ensuring compliances with standards of varietal and physical purity, cleanliness, germination capacity, humidity, etc.
