As in previous meetings, scientific sessions dealed with:

  • Characterisation of potato viruses and viral strains

  • The potato viroid and quarantine viruses

  • Advances in diagnosis techniques

  • Advances in control methods.

The present meeting highlighted :

  • Evolution of the two main potato viruses, PVY and PLRV

  • Advances in understanding of resistance against viruses in potato.

A particular attention was paid to aphid transmission. This session (s) will be introduced by overview presentations on:

  • Forecasting of aphid populations (modelling),

  • Sequencing and expression of aphid genome.

A special lecture was also presented on PVY in non-potato crops.

The scientific program consisted of oral presentations and poster sessions. Keynote lectures will be given by invited speakers at the beginning of each session.

During the conference, there was an administrative meeting of the EAPR virology section, as is usual. Colin Jeffries has his 3-year mandate renewed and will organise the next meeting of the Virology Section in SASA, Edinburgh, Scotland, in 2007.

There was also a meeting of the PVYNTN international working group on PVYNTN co-ordinated by Mrs Isla BROWNING, Sasa, Edinburgh, UK. This meeting was opened to all participants of the conference.

The excursion program included :

  • a one-day visit in a station of seed potato growers and breeders in Normandy (CNPPPT Bretteville station),

  • a half-day visit in the Rennes INRA centre,

  • tourist visits in Rennes old city, in Mont Saint-Michel and on the Channel coast in Brittany and Normandy.

The meeting took place at " Hostellerie Abbatiale " in the village of " Le Tronchet ", 40 kms from Rennes.

Access to the meeting venue

Rennes is 340 kms to the west of Paris.

Travel from Rennes city center to Le Tronchet was organised by bus Sunday June 13th. Rendezvous will be at 6.30 p.m. in front of the Rennes railway station.

Departure Saturday 19th will also be organised by bus from the site of the meeting to Rennes railway station, Rennes or Dinard airports, Saint-Malo ferry.
